AI & conversational design

Designing for conversations,not just screens.

A customer's prescription isn't ready. What do I tell them?
It's in verification — about 20 minutes. I can text them when it's ready.
Do that, and check if another store has it now.
Northgate has it in stock. Want me to transfer the order?

The interface is only the visible layer. The real design problem is deciding how the system behaves when confidence, context and human expectations collide.

That means designing uncertainty, context, trust and recovery — not just chat bubbles.

  • IntentWhat is the person actually trying to finish?

  • ContextRole, location and moment scope every answer.

  • FallbackThe path when the system does not know.

  • GuardrailsWhat the assistant is never allowed to do.

  • ToneCalm, direct, never performative.

  • ConfidenceCommunicated, never implied.

  • EscalationA clean handoff with context attached.

Good design isas little designas possible.

About

Designer.Builder.Curious human.

I'm drawn to problems where the complexity is real — operational systems, healthcare, AI — and the interface has to absorb it rather than pass it on.

I work close to engineering and product, argue for the simplest version that still holds up, and care most about what the product does on the day it doesn't go to plan.
